As anyone with long hair will tell you, not all hairbrushes are born equal, a decent well-made hair brush can last you a lifetime and leave you looking great in the morning, a bad one can damage your hair and leave you looking worse than when you first got up. Mason Pearson is a family business that dates back to the peak of the Industrial Revolution. Over 130 years ago, Mason Pearson was an engineer and inventor, beginning with crafting wool processing looms in Bradford. After meeting and marrying Mary Avis and moving to Yorkshire, Mason worked at the British Steam Brush Works in London’s East End, where he formed a partnership that was in the business of general small-brush making. Combining his previous experience Mason Pearson went on to spark the invention of an automatic brush-boring machine to speed up the process of brush making, receiving a silver medal at the International Inventions Exhibition in London. It was also in this year that he extended the idea of the ‘pneumatic’ rubber-cushioned hairbrush that we see replicated in so many hairbrushes today.

The iconic brush is available in a variety of sizes with a handy size and bristle guide to make sure you find the right version for your hair type but all featuring that same orange air-filled pad and gold branding. We received the large Popular Mason Pearson hairbrush with eight rings of boar bristles and nylon tufts and is available in the classic dark ruby colour as well as light blue, pink and ivory white. The pad fills with air through a small hole in the tip of the brush, which provides a soft cushioning effect on your scalp as you brush your hair. The boar bristles are high quality, ensuring both a beautiful finish and longevity, and the rounded plastic grip is comfortable to hold at all angles as you move around the head. As the natural oils found in the hair can eventually damage the air pad, this brush comes with a cleaning brush that can be used to remove these oils, along with hairs and skin cells. The Mason Pearson hairbrush is a classic hair styling tool that is gentle on your skin and leaves your hair looking glossy and healthy. RRP £97.00
