We have recently moved from a house with a “garden” that consisted solely of gravel, concrete and the neighbours’ cat’s poop to a proper garden that is made up of a front and back lawn and what I can only assume to be poop from a pterodactyl that lives in the tree above our patio. Having never used a lawnmower before (and that gory scene from the Happening fresh in my mind) I was a little apprehensive about both assembling and using the new Gtech Cordless Lawnmower 2.0. My worry was for nothing, the lawnmower arrived mostly constructed, you basically just need to attach the handle and grass bin and it’s done. Thanks to the rapid charger, the 48V lithium-ion battery needs just one hour to receive a full charge which will then provide you with 40 minutes of consistent mowing, the large grass bin will hold up to 50 litres of grass and the indicator flap lets you know when it’s time to empty it out. To get going you simply insert the battery, switch the safety key to on, push the activation button and pull the handle lever, the large wheels and light weight (13.5kg) mean it is easy to manoeuvre around the lawn, around beds and garden furniture, you are not restricted to straight lines, go wild and create some crazy patterns.

The Cordless 2 automatically adjusts the speed to tackle thicker, longer grass and the reengineered carbon steel blade maximises airflow, preventing it becoming bogged down with grass by moving cuttings quickly and efficiently into the bin. The cutting height was a bit of a learning curve so we have one very short patch in the corner of our garden, you can set the blade to cut at 30, 40, 50, 60, 70 and 80mm, letting you achieve the perfect cut (eventually). The 420mm cutting width makes mowing faster and lets you get close to the edges of your garden with fewer passes, whilst the handle was comfortable for us (average height woman, slightly less than average height man) it isn’t adjustable which might be something to consider. The lightweight frame makes it easy to transport from the lawn to the shed or garage, the grass bin can be removed and folded flat, the handle can also be folded down for more compact storage, however the main body of the unit will still take up a fair amount of space. The powerful battery, cordless design, fast charging and enjoyable ease of use make the Cordless Lawnmower 2 a great choice for maintaining and beautifying your garden, in fact it proved so popular the postman even stopped to have a go.
